Mr. Bukoski - FJSHS Social Studies / Health - Classroom Spotlight

6th Grade World History

When people established cities, civilizations began to develop.  This happened about 5000 years ago.  Culture, political, and social development, and technological achievement are all characteristics of a civilization.  Other characteristics include the invention of writing, mathematics, improved agricultural practices, art, and trade.  The 6th graders are following the development of civilizations from the primitive beginnings in the Fertile Crescent over 5000 years ago to more recent civilizations.  They have not only been examining civilizations and describing them in detail, they have also  highlighted some achievements each civilization has had on our present life today.

7th Grade US History

American history is an extremely important subject to study if we wish to continue the way of life we enjoy as Americans.  Imagine life with a President or Congress, or without the freedom of religion or speech.  In order to pass these freedoms on to future generations, we must learn about and defend them.  There is nothing more important to the future of America than producing good citizens. The 7th graders are traveling back in time to get a better understanding of what created our government, why it came about, how it was created, and the growth of the United States.

Maintaining an optimal level of wellness is absolutely crucial to live a higher quality life. Wellness matters. Wellness matters because everything we do and every emotion we feel relates to our well-being. In turn, our well-being directly affects our actions and emotions. It’s an ongoing circle. Therefore, it is important for everyone to achieve optimal wellness in order to subdue stress, reduce the risk of illness and ensure positive interactions.  Health class is focusing on creating that healthy lifestyle and making decisions that promote optimal level health.
