Mrs. Michael - Classroom Spotlight

Welcome to our second grade classroom. We have had a fantastic start to our school year. In Reading, we have already finished our first unit where we worked hard on questioning skills. We enjoyed using our iPads to scan QR codes, listen to stories, and then ask and write questions about what we had heard. We also scanned QR codes in Math. We saw numbers in standard form and then had to write them in word form, unit form, base ten form, and expanded form. Other classroom academics include spelling, grammar, and writing. We also enjoy P.E., Music, Art, lunch and recess time!

September had us busy doing other things as well. We took a walking field trip to the post office where we mailed off Grandparent's Day cards. We then walked to the library to meet Mrs. Bahr, the librarian, who read a fun story to us. We recently made homemade applesauce for Johnny Appleseed day. It was delicious! Also, Ms. Melinda, from the Ogle County Extension Office, comes to visit us once a month to teach us about Illinois agriculture. Her first visit taught us about apples and their uses. Now that it's October, she will be visiting again soon to talk pumpkins with us.

We are looking forward to all the fun things we will be doing this year in second grade. Be sure to visit Mrs. Michael's FGS teachers' webpage to keep updated on all the fun!

P.S. Enjoy the slideshow of some of the activities we have been doing so far this year.
